CHISHOLM TRAIL ANTIQUE GUN ASSOCIATION

JACK STEVENTON MEMORIAL AWARD

Jack Steventon was a member of CTAGA during the 1960s and 70s. He liked guns and he liked shooting them, but he was not notable as either a gun collector or as a shooter. What made him notable was his readiness to help out whenever help was needed. When Jack died in late 1976, Paul Buchanan proposed that the Club create a special award in memory of Jack to recognize other members who similarly gave of their time and effort on behalf of the membership. Paul's proposal was accepted and the Jack Steventon Memorial Award was created. It was not to be given for any particular act or for just performing one's duties well but rather for sustained voluntary contributions of time, talent, and energy over a significant period of time. Fittingly, the first recipient was Doc Norfleet, a long-time member who was similarly disposed to volunteer whenever help was needed. For the most part, that describes all those who have received the Award over the years.
